Internet Governance Forum, Paris, 12-14 November 2018 [fr]
France will host the 13rd edition of the Internet Governance Forum (IGF), with this year’s theme being “Internet of Trust”.
This major event on the global governance of the Internet is organized by the French government, under the auspices of the United Nations. It will be held at UNESCO in Paris on 12-14 November 2018.
Le IGF is a global forum for multi-stakeholder dialogue on all public policy issues related to the Internet.
It was created in Tunis in 2005, by the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS). Initially intended to last five years, its mandate was extended by the WSIS+10 resolution, which was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in December 2015.

The Forum, under the theme of an “Internet of Trust”, will discuss proposed regulatory frameworks, global trends, potential risks, and good and bad practices which have been adopted or are under discussion.
It is important because it facilitates discussions between governments, intergovernmental organizations, private companies, the technical community and civil society organizations dealing with or interested in public policy issues relating to Internet governance.
The President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron, should be present at the Forum, which is one of a series of major international events in Paris focusing on digital technology, along with the Paris Peace Forum (11 November) and the GovTech Summit (12 November).
The Internet Governance Forum is an opportunity for France to promote a French and European perspective on digital technology, as the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs did in December 2017 in France’s International Digital Strategy, and to reiterate its commitment to the United Nations system, including with regard to digital governance, in line with the conclusions of the World Summit on the Information Society.
