France welcomes Pope’s encyclical on the environment

Climate disruption/COP21/publicationof the encyclical “Laudato Si” – Communiqué issued by the Presidency of the Republic

Paris, 18 June 2015

The French President has welcomed the publication of the encyclical “Laudato Si”: “Pope Francis’s encyclical restores a humanist perspective to the environmental challenge and reminds the world of the solidarity of its destiny.

“As France prepares to host the climate negotiations, I want to pay tribute to this appeal both to the world’s public and to its governments. I very much hope that Pope Francis’s unique voice will be heard on every continent, and not by believers alone.”./.

Climate disruption/COP21/publication of the encyclical “Laudato Si” on the environment – Statement by M. Laurent Fabius, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development and President of COP21

Paris, 18 June 2015

I welcome the publication of the encyclical “Laudato Si” by His Holiness Pope Francis, the Catholic Church’s first encyclical devoted to the environment.

Its title, taken from the writings of Saint Francis of Assisi, and its status – it is the highest-value document the Sovereign Pontiff can produce – testify to the importance the Pope attaches to protecting the environment.

In this decisive year for the fight against climate disruption, this unprecedented gesture will help strengthen the mobilization of the Christian community and, more generally, all citizens of the world who are sensitive to the Pope’s messages. So it is an important contribution to the success of COP21./.
